GB3UI & MB7IBG General Information

We have many interesting projects underway at the moment mainly software based to enhance the way in which the MB7IBG gateway interacts with both its users and administrators. The MB7IBG gateway will not be permanently connected to a large conference server, the RF users should and will drive the system using as many methods as possible to command the gateway these control methods will include DTMF, timed connections and much more.  The coverage of the systems is dictated by the location of the system and its important to accept that the age of large coverage repeaters has come to an end. Interlinking systems allows the footprint to grow as required into specific target areas. This is an excellent use of available spectrum, interconnecting nodes regardless of their software should enhance a system not degrade it.

Both GB3UI and MB7IBG are community based resources and their coverage has been tailored to suite this requirement. To enhance the system further we will be forming links with local repeaters and gateways in a cell type structure these favorite repeaters and links will have special quick connection methods so enable mobile users to modify the network whilst driving with little or no distractions.  We intend to push the technology to its limit and our technical solutions also will devote special consideration to users with visual disabilities allowing them to use alternative access methods were possible.

The GB3UI UHF Voice Repeater is not currently interlinked however the new MB7IBG VHF Internet Voice Gateway for the Solihull and south Birmingham area is connected to the Echolink system.

At the moment GB3UI is a continuous 67.0 Hz CTCSS system and will not respond to tone-burst or carrier we are working to remove this requirement. We are also working on a new control logic that will permit the correct operation with VOIP software.

The systems are run on an informal basis, NO committee is involved. The group has been formed to collect the best software developers and administrators that will drive the systems development forward.  The group does not however own the repeater or gateway system(s) they are fully financed by the keeper.  We have seen all too often over the past years that committees can have disagreements and the like which seems very sad considering this is meant to be a hobby.  These systems will be FREE from any such burdens for all to use and enjoy.

The access restriction on GB3UI is unfortunate at this point in time and is to solve a specific technical issue, again we are working hard to resolve this issue.

We do NOT accept donations of any kind however If you would also like a mention on our site or maybe a link to your own website then please email  G4LCH  and let us know what you have planned. If anybody does wish to take an active interest in the repeater and how it is operated then please email  G4LCH with your contact details.
